CZTHS The American Cantonments, building the training camps overnight. 17 Nov 9 2008, 10:39 PM EST by mjroman

Historians of World War 1, both professional and novice alike, focus their studies primarily on the European theater. The efforts taken here at home to build 16 new training camps has mostly been forgotten. Camp Zachary Taylor was built in less than 90 days, and covered over 3000 acres. Camp Zachary Taylor Historical Society is dedicated to reviving the history, the magnitude and political fallout of the project.

Designed and laid out literally overnight, this massive project was started after many other training camps were already under way, but it was completed first. We are still working on detailing the construction of the cantonment, but you can visit us and read about the project and the people at http://www.camptaylorhistorical.org/
