Chlorpicrin Gas

For serious work, CN is combined with PS, chlorpicrin, CCl3NO2, with some chloroform, from which PS is made. This small molecule is a powerful vomiting agent, and also a lachrymatory and lung irritant. It melts at 69°C and boils at 113°C, and its vapor is 5.6 times as heavy as air. In German, PS was known as Klop, a delightful name. The combination CN-PS is known as CNB. CNB is a bit strong for civil disturbances. In a surprise CNB attack, the soldier puts on his gas mask and then vomits in it.

Does anyone know anything about the German A7V Tank? There were only about ten of these behemoths.

Bergmann MP-18

Bergmann MP-18

The Bergmann MP-18 was a machine pistol designed for German stormtroopers. Did the MP-18 ever make it onto the battlefield? Can anyone find a better picture?

Krupp 42cm Howitzer

Rare Weapons of WWI - WFA East Coast Chapter

The German 42cm Krupp Howitzer is the iconic weapon of 1914. Unfortunately, none remain in existence. Ten guns were built during the war, but only two survived. One was captured by the US Army and shipped back to Aberdeen Proving Grounds. It was scrapped in 1954. Another stayed in German hands and was used during the French Campaign to bombard the Maginot Line in 1940. Its final fate is unknown. From what I can tell, the howitzer in this photo must be the one that was shipped back to Aberdeen. What can we glean from this photo? Any ideas or thoughts?

The Patton Museum, at Fort Knox Kentucky has the only known remaining Mark V in the world in their Museum. Here is a link to their website and a photo of the Mark V in their new WW1 Exhibit. They also have one of the Ford Tanks too.

The MP-18 did see service but mostly after the March 1918 German offensives. It was designed by Hugo Schmiesser roughly 30,000 were issued. My source is Osprey's German Stormtrooper 1914-1918 from their Warrior Series #12. Authors Ian Drury & Gerry Embleton.
